Congressional Races of 2014

It’s shaping up to be an interesting Congressional election season.

Republican incumbent Chris Collins will likely cruise to re-election in the sprawling 27th. He has name recognition, bases his every word and deed on Obama-hatred, and a bottomless pit of money with which to purchase perpetual re-election.

Democrats endorsed a young police officer and attorney, Jim O’Donnell (no relation), to run against Collins. In addition to his J.D., O’Donnell has a Master’s in Economics, which would certainly come in handy against the throwback voodoo economics that Collins espouses. O’Donnell is running because of Congressional dysfunction

My dream is the same dream that people across the district share for their children. The problem is that Congress lately has been doing a better job of getting in the way of that dream than helping it come true. As a Congressman, I would work every single day to make sure that those very simple dreams, those simple ideals, become a reality.

Hopefully, Collins’ childishly nonsensical  “I was against the federal shutdown that I voted fornihilism will take center stage.  O’Donnell’s Facebook page is here

In the 26th, incumbent Democrat Brian Higgins is likely to coast to re-election, as well. This is especially true thanks to the fact that his opponent is not only going to be a tea partier, but is – quite literally – a low-information WBEN caller. “Kathy from Williamsville” is going to take her fact-free jingoism on the campaign trail. She is a walking, talking anti-Obama chain email, and anyone reporting on her should be sure to have Snopes queued up on their mobile browsers. Seriously – there will be no point covering her campaign if you’re not able immediately to vet her pronouncements and cross-examine her on the inevitable fabrications and fantasies she’ll discuss. After all, she has a list of known communists, doesn’t seem to be ready or willing to represent Muslim residents of the 26th (hint: it’s the primitive blood lust), has declared “white guilt” to be “dead”, warned against a hyperinflation that never came, and – like Ronald Reagan – opposes Medicare

That one will be fun.

  • she(Kathy Weppner) totally relates to the “average American” BTW I wonder how she feels about some of those Moozlams that live on her street and in her neighborhood!??!

  • “Kathy from Williamsville” is our own lightweight version of Sara Palin, It will be at least entertaining to watch her self destruct with no real harm done. The Tea Party is the modern day dumbed down version of the Know Nothing Party of the 19th Century, again it has been entertaining to watch but the Tea Party has done great damage and will likely cause even more before they are relegated to the trash heap of history.

    • Speaking of Palin, Lifer, were you among her mockers several years ago, when she stated that we should be prepared for a Russian invasion of Ukrane? C’mon — tell the truth.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I seriously doubt that she came to that conclusion herself, she was most likely told to say that by her campaign team.

That said, what do you think the appropriate response is? Since you must think sanctions are a wrong move, the only other option is military intervention which will only drive up our debt even further and cause the loss of more (unnecessary) american lives.

      • You spelled Ukraine wrong.

  • Hah, Wepner. What an embarrassment.

  • You should run in 2016 against Collins. (seriously)

  • In other Congressional news, the ludicrous Sheila Jackson Lee will run again. She once visited JPL and asked if the Mars Rover would be able to show “the flag the astronauts planted there before”.

And so will Hank Johnson, who, during a House Armed Services Committee meeting inquired of Adm. Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific fleet, whether a buildup of Marines on Guam might cause the island to capsize.

Two of the stupidest people on Earth — but, because they’re Democrats, the folks on this thread will be rooting for them. Without a trace of embarrassment.

All said by one dumb guy elected president by the reps/cons 2 times……

    • Potatoe.

    • 1. Neither of these people are from WNY. That means they’re irrelevant to this discussion.

      2. There’s a bit of a difference between being being stupid (as you accuse these two black politicians of being) and being fucking malignant, which is what Collins and this Weppner person are.

  • Kathy Weppner will be running in my district. Can’t wait, hope she canvases my neighborhood. Love to tell her what a douche she is.

    • Even better, give her the Double Stone Cold Salute. (If you have to ask what THAT is…well, ’nuff said!)

  • Weppner is sort of like the tea party on steroids. Be prepared for a Todd Akin/Sharon Angle/Christine O’Donnell moment or two — or twelve — coming up in this campaign. Hopefully she won’t make too much of a fool of herself until after petitions are filed so that she can’t be removed from the ballot. Then the local and national Republicans can spend July through November trying to disown her.

    • She already has.
In her opening speech, she said the parents at Sandy Hook want teachers to be armed with guns.
      Wrong-o Kathy!

  • And to think, thanks to redistricting, I was looking forward to voting against Higgins…. Now I am going to have to figure out who is the lesser of 2 evils, or abstain.

  • It continues to confound me that the GOP, which certainly has some very bright members, allows imbeciles like Weppner to taker center stage at any point. For a party that tries to come off as being all about uber-bravery and shunning cowardice, they sure are cowards when it comes to having the courage to shut down these embarrassing factions that have made the party a laughing stock.

    • That’s because most of the energy from the entire party radiates from the malignant cesspool that is the wing nut teabagger contingent. You have to admit, though, it is kind of fun watching them set themselves on fire.

Nothing like an objective article. Obviously just another liberal rag. Sorry I wasted my time.

  • I tried linking to your Kathy Weppner info – she has taken everything down…good thing most WNYers have great memories!

  • “bottomless pit of money with which to purchase perpetual re-election.” Alan, wouldn’t you agree people like Brian and other democrat officials could be the poster kids for your comment about perpetual re-election?

  • Kathy Weppner is a constipated Stepford Wife dumbass. Does she really have to keep telling people she’s from Williamsville? It is embarrassing. 14 angry wrinkly white people show up for her announcement – not even Collins will come out for this.
