It’s amazing what happens when people can vote in secret. Apparently, there existed a ton of discontent and the younger, more passionate candidates thumped the staid, endorsed ones. Most of Hoak’s ads were just her walking around and almost all were paid by online betting firms. Rivera vs. Zellner was particularly nasty and devolved into who is more anti-Paladino, which really doesn’t move the needle given the various and sundry problems most people have.

Also, the left wing of the party is especially effective organizing in low-turnout elections such as mid-June party primaries.
