NEJM: Ebola Quarantine “Like Driving a Carpet Tack With a Sledgehammer”

From the leftist pinkos at the New England Journal of Medicine, who are totally in Obama’s evil, Marx0-fascist totalitarian pocket or something:

The governors of a number of states, including New York and New Jersey, recently imposed 21-day quarantines on health care workers returning to the United States from regions of the world where they may have cared for patients with Ebola virus disease. We understand their motivation for this policy — to protect the citizens of their states from contracting this often-fatal illness. This approach, however, is not scientifically based, is unfair and unwise, and will impede essential efforts to stop these awful outbreaks of Ebola disease at their source, which is the only satisfactory goal. The governors’ action is like driving a carpet tack with a sledgehammer: it gets the job done but overall is more destructive than beneficial.

Read the whole thing here, and stop living your life sprinting from one crisis spelling imminent doom to another. In other words, stop being this:

  • But their motives are not “to protect the citizens of their states from contracting this often-fatal illness.” Their motives are, if they are Republican, to destroy Democrats in the forthcoming election by creating a generalized sense of fear and pinning it on the Democrats, and, if they are Democrats, to avoid being destroyed this way. Meanwhile, the political neophyte in the White House has allowed himself to be defined utterly by his opponents. One way he might have gotten ahead of the steamroller, several years ago: go to Madison and march with the state workers, as he said he would. Instead, he maintained his Spock-like reserve. And the Democrats will go down.

    • Those are some pretty tough words on a “neophyte” who managed to get elected twice despite the Rep/Con trashing the economy/people lives/ govt shut downs in order to make “the black guy” look bad. Given that almost all of the Senate races involved are within the margin for error with regards to the most recent polls….we will have to wait and see if the Dems go down….As for Madison it looks like things are going to take care of themselves there and there will be one less clown (Walker) in the car come the Rep. primary season….

  • Shorter Pundit: “Ebola is no big deal, so the fact that the Regime has totally butchered this thing is of no consequence. (Oh, and you’re all racists if you think otherwise.)”

    • You aren’t a racist for thinking Ebola is a big deal. You’re a moron. You’re a racist because you believe stupid shit about black people.

    • The New England Journal of Medicine must be totally in the tank for Obama.

Laura Bush has killed the same number of people in the US as Ebola.

      • So has Teddy Kennedy.
(Always remember, Alan, that “Teddy Kennedy” is the natural retort to that thing about Laura Bush killing someone — sometimes alternated with Joseph P. Kennedy II paralyzing Pam Kelley, or John-John Kennedy killing his two plane passengers, or Michael Skakel bludgeoning Martha Moxley to death.)

    • Ebola isn’t a big deal. Unless you are into swapping fluids with people who are simultaneously bleeding and shitting themselves to death, or are already dead. Are you into that? Then its a big deal.

      Not judging of course.

    • Butchered what …1 guy died because Texas Governor “Smart Glasses” doesn’t believe that his hospitals should treat people without health insurance…..that he denies to his constituents…

      • Ooohh — you almost got it right, UncleDuck. Really nice effort.
One guy died because he thought it would be a good idea to embrace the blood-, poop-, and vomit-soaked body of someone with Obola in Liberia.
Two nurses contracted Obola because the sick guy was permitted to travel to the US on his own say-so, after Little Barry told us, “Don’t worry–I got this–Obola ain’t comin’ here”, and after the amateur head of Barry’s CDC guaranteed us the nurses had been properly equipped and instructed by the Guvmint, and there was no reason for us to know where the sick guy had come from, or on what flight.

  • “butchered this thing” – heh
Remind me…how many people in the U.S. have Ebola right now? And which party of clowns and buffoons refuses to allow the Surgeon General nominee to take office?
