Propaganda 101

There aren’t a lot of Stalinist dictatorships left in the world, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), or North Korea is the weirdest of all. Led now by a Swiss-educated twentysomething, it is effectively a large jail with its own currency, and the world’s only Communist dynasty.

This week, North Korea sent a satellite into space. For a country that follows long-discredited communist central planning and considers anyone not in the military or the party to be disposable, launching a rocket seems to be hardly a priority. But for all the tea party dummies, this is communism, and this is communist propaganda. It’s a dying art; one that was once practiced throughout the globe.  Clap in unison, comrades for the “Hot Wind of Kim Jong-Un”, the sun of the nation and the lodestar for unification

  • But is this commercial stupider than The Manchurian Candidate, Homeland, and 24?

The state socialist regimes seem to specialize in imprisoning and starving to death their own citizens: the USSR killed millions (1.8-7.5) of Ukrainians in the Holodomor, China killed even more millions (15-45) in the Great Chinese famine, while North Korean killed .2-3.5 million in famine of 1994-1998. The capitalist nations specialize more in killing millions of people in other countries: Nazi Germany and Japan in WWII (60+ million), the US in Korea (2.5 million, most of them our victims), Indochina (1.5-4 million), and Iraq and Afghanistan, sanctions plus war (a million and counting?).

The weird thing is that American citizens, with their free press, seem to be as ignorant of the blood spilt by their governments as are the citizens of the socialist states.
