Fear & Propaganda

Lost amid the sound and fury of the race for the Republican nomination is how candidates Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, and even former candidates like Cain, are really focusing on issues and not engaging in race-baiting or hyperbole.

Nah, I’m just kidding. The issues are secondary. This is all about how Obama has destroyed / is about to destroy America, grandma, apple pie, and Chevrolet. Why, yesterday Obama got caught on a hot mic telling Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev the truth – that missile shield talks need to wait until after the election, at which time Obama will have “more flexibility”.

Given that Mitt Romney went on record yesterday all but demanding war against Russia, Obama’s position is a bit more sane.

So, here are some pretty awesome advertisements that Santorum and Cain’s PAC have put out in recent days. I’d call these “blatantly false propagandistic fearmongering”, but Limbaugh and his clones tell me only Democrats do that.

This one is from Rick Santorum. It’s got everything – how Obama destroyed the economy while he was President in 2008, how Ahmadinejad is going to rocket-destroy America and, like, take it over – maybe with Obama’s help, because he’s a seekrit Kenyan Mooslim!

Herman Cain isn’t going to be outdone by the patent insanity of a Rick Santorum. So, he’ll start out by displaying his hatred for “stimulus” by having a little kid kill a goldfish:

And, not content with sanctioning the killing of a 10-cent fish, Cain pays for some really poor CGI showing a guy shooting a bunny rabbit in mid-air.

Because nothing says, “I disagree with Keynesian economic pump-priming” like blowing a rabbit into little bits!

  • Yikes, Obamaville IS scary, it’s full of only white folks.

  • Cain? It’s well established that his bid was just a corny publicity stunt. The 999 plan, for real? Did you watch any of his other campaign videos? Seriously, no one saw the comedic insanity? Journalists are stupid. People, like you Alan, that perpetuate their lead, well I’ll let you decide for yourself what kind of sheep you are. Also bringing Cain into it at this point: flatulence. Get a real angle, educate the “conservatives” on something more than your mental excrement. Your consistent appeal to the bottom-feeders shows what angle you’re looking at the world from.

  • Thank you “Bbill”, Rachel Maddow, again, ftw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBLhnCHR2aY Now if we can reveal the rest of the satires the Republicans are fielding we will be in good shape, but I suspect those jokes are a LOT more tragically flawed.

Looks like child abuse and animal abuse are the center of the GOP platform, nothing new here, just a more bizarre and out of touch Republican Party.

First of all I am a registered Dem. So, if the general public shows no interest in a primary for their party, and the candidates are trying to impress the only people showing up, the wingnuts, what else can you expect? You can’t generalize the republican party as being “out of touch” they are just chasing the only people who are showing up at the rallies or the voting booth.
Just like the Palin phenomenon, no one gives a rat’s tit about this stuff expect for the hard right freaks who are always screaming about something, remember McCain couldn’t get a couple of hundred people to show up at his rallies until Palin joined the circus.
It is too bad as all republicans are not bad people or out of touch, many have a lot of good ideas to add to the mix, but just as knee jerk liberals will move to crush my freedom of speech if I want to call someone a bad stereotype name,or thinking everyone sould be economic equals, it all come out looking like extreme positions.
Apathy will be the end of us all, but I guess that makes only us to blame.

@Any good content- Of course there are some decent reasonable Republicans that could add to the debate, problem is they have allowed the crazies to seize the agenda. Those same moderates stood silent when the race baiting, class warfare, hate speech, and assorted other methods of dividing America were successful for their party. Now that that strategy is backfiring I can’t feel sorry for them, they made their bed, too bad they didn’t do the right thing and speak up long ago.

  • “problem is they have allowed the crazies to seize the agenda” – damn – just like the Dems!

But they can’t win the primary if they don’t play to this crowd, no one else will vote, then they come out after the primary if they survive and try to go more moderate but that leaves you with your legacy of positions durin ghte primary. The simple answer is if we go to a multi-party system with real multi-parties, and let the primary(s) run amok with little attention and take lesser position if you have 7 or 8 plus candidates on the ballot in November.

jim- I don’t think the dems. left has taken as strong of a position in the overall party as much as the rep. right, our lefties are pretty nuts but your (assuming your a rep.) religious right is friggin off the charts.

@Jim- The Dems have if anything allowed the center-right to seize the agenda, the true left has never had a real voice in our government.
