Arpaio '16 and the Death of a Bully

Sheriff Joe Arpaio has a message for Barack Obama: Lemme see your papers, boy.

Thanks, Sheriff Joe for your efforts to revive a long-resolved non-issue! It will remind voters that the Republican Party is now owned and operated by fringe reactionary conspiracy theorists. (Layers! Layers! Layers!)

Meanwhile, our local talk-radio station hosts a morning guy who is right on top of the “Obama killed Breitbart” theory, and an afternoon guy who calls women with whom he disagrees a “slut” and a “prostitute”. WBEN should be ashamed of itself for broadcasting this despicable hate-speech on public airwaves, and don’t hold your breath waiting for any Republican, anywhere to dare criticize Limbaugh for anything.

As for Andrew Breitbart, while I feel sorry for his wife & kids, I’ll eschew any phony “RIP”, or gee-I-f*cking-hated-that-guy-but-he’s-dead-now-so-I’ll-write-something-respectful, because he was someone who did not exist to engage in political discourse or to persuade – he existed solely to destroy. Upon the death of Senator Edward Kennedy, Breitbart did not suddenly find a shred of humanity and respectfully observe that event. Instead, he wrote hateful and derogatory things, cheering the Senator’s death. Breitbart wrote,

Why do you grant a BULLY special status upon his death?

Why, indeed. So, I won’t grant Breitbart any special status upon his.

I’m tired of people quietly going along with what is really amounting to fascistic rhetoric out of the rudderless, ideology-free American right wing.

  • As far as I can tell, the only credible story that Breitbart legitimately executed was the Anthony Weiner expose. His contrived assaults on ACORN and Shirley Sherrod who by the way, made very gracious comments on his passing [http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2012/03/01/shirley-sherrod-offers-condolences.html,] his work was that of an shameless ideological hack and hit man who didn’t let the facts get in the way of his objectives.

  • CNN carried Arpaio’s “press conference” live, thus forever relinquishing their reputation as either “liberal” or “competent”.

  • The Georgetown law student did make a point. I geuss she is choosing the right profession, lawers are the only ones who “win” anything.

  • “….WBEN should be ashamed of itself for broadcasting this despicable hate-speech on public airwaves….”

WWKB, with Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, and Rhandi Rhodes never ever does that though, correct? It’s just WBEN that you have a problem with.

    • If you can point out a situation where Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, or Randi Rhodes called a woman who testified before Congress regarding contraception a “slut” and a “prostitute”, I’ll be happy to condemn it. Of course, I don’t listen to AM talk radio – not left or right. I don’t need to be told what to think.

Also, let’s don’t pretend like KB has even remotely the audience that WBEN does.

  • You don’t listen to AM talk radio nor want to be told what to think, yet you’re mentioning what Rush Limbaugh said earlier this week. How much did the lessons cost for your telekinetic powers and where can I sign up for them?

  • Limbaugh is the King of the GOP. He sets their agenda, they kiss his ring. His bovine followers just do as they’re told, beats thinking for themselves. This is why the party has become hostage to the lowest (by every measure) levels of their constituencies.

At long last, WBEN, have you no decency?

There’s no equivalent on the left.

  • @Charles. Probably the same way I did. Reading it on-online. Guess you really thought you had a Gotcha moment there, Einstein.

  • Man, did you ever put me in my place. I keep forgetting, having a differing opinion w/ posts from Alan or Chris are verboten. I do listen to talk radio, both WBEN and WWKB, and I have heard all three of the radio personalities I listed make statements that could be considered “hate speech”. They’re being provocative, which I’m pretty sure is what they’re being paid for. I’ve even listened to Stephanie Miller long enough to remember hearing her as “Sister Sleeze” to Brother Wease on WCMF.

Here you go: How I learned of Bauerle’s nonsense. (He also posted about it to his Facebook “fan” page. And as for Limbaugh, it’s only been in the news for the last 48 hours, complete with a congressional condemnation.

But not from a Republican. Criticizing Limbaugh is the third rail of Republican rhetoric.

  • Ah, someone whips out the old “having a differing opinion w/ posts from Alan or Chris are verboten” line.

Translation: I tried to be clever, but got shot down by facts! Oh noes! I’ll take my ball and sulk all the way home, while I listen to Bauerle tell me what to think next!

  • Simple question – Does WWKB broadcast “hate speech” from the three personalities I mentioned or not? It’s either coming from both right and left wing radio or it isn’t. That was my point, and my only point.

  • You don’t listen to AM talk radio nor want to be told what to think, yet you’re mentioning what Rush Limbaugh…

Could it be that some of us actually get our news from credible sources and not solely from the winnut cespool that uniformed right relies on……by the way the Limbaugh issue was plasterd all over every station/network I had the unfortunate experience of passing through during my adventures in tv land last night…….

    • Incidentally, when Ed Schultz (to whom I don’t listen) called Laura Ingraham a slut, he was suspended and forced to apologize, and was roundly condemned for it by Democrats as well as Republicans.

I don’t see anyone suspending Limbaugh or any forthcoming apology, despite the fact that he called a perfectly innocent woman a prostitute and a slut. F*ck anyone who defends that.

Time for an advertiser boycott. That goes for any local business that advertises on WBEN as well. Take your commerce elsewhere.

  • @K. Charles – what does your wife think of Limbaugh’s charming rant? Your daughter? Your mother?

  • Here is the difference – when someone who allegedly speaks out for the left (and Schultz is a fraud)and says something reprehensible, he gets condemned.

When someone on the right says something reprehensible, you right-wing cowards take refuge behind the “well, someone on MSNBC said something mean once too” defense. As if Limbaugh’s comments don’t deserve condemnation IRRESPECTIVE of what anyone else has ever said.

The right-wingers were gutless in the 1950’s with McCarthy and your track record of cowardice continues to this day.

  • Read somewhere that Clear channel is owned by Bain Capital .

  • @K. Charles…Please give us an example of “hate speech” from the 3 liberal talk hosts you mentioned. Nothing? Hello..?? I am waiting to condemn it..Please? Or conversely give us an example of something Limbaugh has said that goes over your line of “hate speech”?? Please..something??
    Thank You..

  • Charles, by your standards, are Limbaugh and his mini-me imitators guilty of “hate speech”?

  • We have all got to remember that Rush Limbaugh is using a pretty profitable business model. It doesn’t matter to him about his belief or non belief of the shock jock statements he makes as long as it fits his business model. The crazier stuff he says the faster his ditto heads open their wallets for his premium content lurking behind pay walls. He doubles down on that by keeping his ratings numbers up to attract advertisers who get skinned for bigger bucks. Simple. Referring to Ms Fluke as “ill informed..or mistaken” instead of “slut” and prostitute would have further collapsed his revenue stream. It already is collapsing. • Join with us to silence those we disagree with or find distasteful.

  • Shorter Charles: Rush is the real victim here.

  • I would have the same opinion if the boycott were targeting Keith Olbermann or Bill Maher. Principles mean nothing if they aren’t applied universally.

  • Rush,is doing, what shock jocks are supposed to do. SHOCK PEOPLE! Get them talking about you.
And subsequently, getting them listening to you.

There’s an old adage that many top paid broadcasters live by. There’s no such thing, as bad publicity.

While not totally true, of course, it comes pretty close. While I have long despaired the demise of the fairness doctrine, because, I truly think it has really dumbed American Votes down, I grudgingly admire Rush, for playing by the rules, and making megabucks. NOt just for himself, but, for his advertisers, and for the radio stations that run his show. And, he almost single handedly saved AM Radio. If folks really were concerned about biased misogynistic rhetoric, there would be massive calls for boycotting anything having to do with rap music. Anything related to magazines like Playboy. Not to mention, most of the products advertised during any big sporting event, that targets men by titillating them with stereotypical bimbos. Let’s get real. The Democrats have long hated the power that talk radio wields, and that is all this is is about. By the way..I dislike all the Republican candidates. None of them, are remotely qualified to be President of this country.
